EXPLANATION OF KEY TERMS

IN-SCHOOL SUSPENSION (ISS)
A student may be assigned to In-school suspension as a discipline measure. When a student is assigned ISS, the day is spent doing school work in isolation. All regular school day privileges are canceled.

OUT-OF SCHOOL SUSPENSION
Students are subject to off-campus school suspension when they commit serious infractions. Suspension can be from one to five days, depending on the severity of the offense. When a student is suspended from school, that student must remain away from the school campus and all school activities for the duration of the suspension.

COMMUNITY SERVICE
If a student is given community service, she/he is under the supervision of a certificated adult and is responsible for doing tasks which enhance or maintain the beauty of our school environment.

SCHOOL DISTRICT EXPULSION
A student may be recommended for expulsion when the administrator determines that the student has committed any of the acts listed below:

ARSON -
The willful burning of any part of our school building or property therein.

ASSAULT/BATTERY -
Caused or attempted to cause or threaten to cause physical injury to another person.

CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES -
Selling of drugs or any substance represented to be a controlled substance. Use or being under the influence of any controlled substance, including tobacco.

EXTORTION -
Taking anything of value from another person by use of force.

ROBBERY/THEFT -
Stealing or attempting to steal school or private property (includes receiving stolen school or private property).

WEAPONS -
Possession, use, transmittal, or concealment of ANY weapon. Weapons are defined as firearms, knives, explosives, inflammable materials or any other items that may cause bodily injury or death.

HARASSMENT -
Committing obscene acts or engaging in habitual profanity, including sexual harassment.

SCHOOL DISRUPTION/DEFIANCE -
Disrupting school activities or otherwise willfully defying valid school authority of school staff, or other school officials or personnel engaged in the performance of their duties.
