Homework Policy

Homework is defined as school -related assignments and tasks which require time and effort outside the classroom for completion. Properly designed homework is an important part of the program of instruction and shall be assigned at all grade levels. Homework shall not be assigned as punishment.

Homework assignments are to be specific and connected to the classroom objectives. The principal is responsible for supervising the program of homework in the various grades, in accordance with the following guidelines:
  1. Homework assignments should not exceed twenty (20) minutes at the primary levels, forty-five (45) minutes in grades 4 , 5, and 6.
  2. In the primary grades, homework assignments should be designed to stimulate interaction between parents and students to encourage family participation, and to promote the development of basic skills.
It is the teacher’s responsibility to make sure students understand the homework that is to be done, its purpose, and how it should be done. Teachers are expected to correct and return homework to students, with comments when appropriate, in a timely manner. Teachers are also expected to communicate with parents regarding their homework program and how parents can assist and support their child with homework assignments.
