Report Cards Promotion

Reporting to Parents
Parents will be notified by the teacher if a student is performing below expectations. All students are screened by the teacher and the Student Review Team each trimester. The teacher share the results of academic assessments and other relevant information to determine if a student is performing above standard, at standard, or below standard.

Parents are informed of students' progress in a variety of ways. Teacher/Parent conferences are held in November and December. Teachers or parents may call for conferences at any time during the year. Report cards are issued three times a year; in November and /or December as part of the conference, and in March and June. In addition, teachers may use progress reports between report card periods, weekly assignment reports, daily progress reports, or informal notes or calls to parents. We encourage you to call teachers if you have a concern about your child's progress.

Promotion
Students will be promoted to the next grade when they have satisfactorily completed and passed all course work. Students who do not meet expectations may be retained or assigned an at-risk status and given additional support to help raise their level of achievement.

Provisional Promotion
Students who do not meet all academic benchmarks and/or standards may be promoted to the next grade by recommendation of the Student Review Team or the Student Success Team. Reasons for provisional promotion may include age, previous retention, a 504-accommodation plan, IEP, or concern for social development.

Retention
Board policy regarding retention was adopted in accordance with Education Code Section 48070.5, which requires that students be retained if they fail to meet identified standards. It also requires the District to identify students who should be retained or are at risk of being retained, and to develop strategies for addressing their academic deficiencies.

Acceleration
Acceleration may be considered when superior ability and achievement have been demonstrated. The student’s social and emotional maturity shall weigh heavily in deciding whether to recommend a student for acceleration. No student may be accelerated without the express written consent of the principal and the parent/guardian.
